Here are some annual events which bring different types of visitors to Foix:

The festival of Resistance films in mid July, with debates and Independant Films;

The Jazz festival end July to beginning August with performances by well known and not so well known musicians.  The school is turned into a Jazz village and offers a great atmosphere on lazy summer evenings;

The open air theatre spectacle, with the Chateau as a backdrop, tells the history of Foix and ends with a grand firework display;

At the end of October, the route of the following year's Tour de France is announced.  The route always includes the Pyrenees, so Foix may be the place to be in July!  Most cylists will have heard of the Ariegeios cycle race and know that plenty of other routes can be found. Food festivals take place all over the region!

All year round markets

There are markets in Foix every Friday throughout the year and in Summer, at least twice a week, selling farmers' produce, flowers, clothes, souvenirs and household goods.  On other days, there will be a market in a town or village a short drive away.

Theatre and Cinema

We have very good facilities for lovers of culture just a short walk away, providing a variety of films and shows in French and English.

Shopping

Foix is not immensely touristy, so you won't find tacky 'souvenir' shops.  You will, however, find a smattering of small boutiques selling quality clothing and shoes, outlet shops selling regional specialities, like foie gras, cassoulet, hypocras (a sweet aperitif) and regional wines.  When you're all shopped out, you can relax in a sunny cafe and be lulled by the slow pace of the town.
