Close by (walking distance) in Foix:   Restaurants, Theatres, Cinemas, clubs, cafés, pubs, library, Churches, Post Office, Banks, Shops, Opticians, Doctors, Pharmacies (Hospital 10 minutes’ drive away) and sports facilities. 

A short drive away:  Walking, climbing, white water rafting, pony trekking, golf, hiking, climbing, kayaking, canyoning, skiing, parapenting, tennis.  Prehistoric caves such as Lombrives, Niaux, Mas d’Azil, Bédeilhac.  Cathar Castles: Foix, Montségur, Roquefixade, Puivert.  You can visit grand Cities like Toulouse, Albi, Lourdes, Pau, even Barcelona (by car or by train).  There are spectacles, markets and festivals throughout the summer.  The medieval towns of Mirepoix and Carcassonne are not far.  Or you could go skiing at Ax Bonascre or shopping in tax free Andorra, or just venture into the rich and beautiful countryside of the Ariège!

Skiing!  Here's our newly fallen snow (February 2010) at Ax Bonascre (a spectacular 40 minute drive away).  The slopes are well pisted.  Choose between the fast lift and the road from Ax to Bonascre (each takes 10 minutes).  The lifts from Bonascre are mainly chairs and Pomas and queues are rare.  For non skiing winter visitors we can suggest a choice of itineraries. The walking guides "Le Pays de Foix à Pied' and "Midi Pyrenees a Pied" include nearby walks open at any time of the year. These guides are available from our bookshop in Foix or from www.ffrp.asso.fr.  We have copies of these as well as many walking and driving maps which we lend to our guests.
